THE SCHOOL OF TALSOILA
Forssa, FINLAND
The
school of Talsoila is situated in the town of Forssa, about 110 kilometres north-west
of Helsinki. Our school is the biggest elementary school in the town with 13
classes, 18 teachers and over 300 students. The surrounding nature with
parks, woods and the river Loimijoki provides excellent possibilities to
environmental education in our school.
Teleinformatics
has been used in teaching for several years and we have had a net
connection since 1997. Some of the 5th and 6th
graders study German or French as optional foreign languages.
Thanks to everybody working in the school and to parents
as well the atmosphere in our school is genial and peaceful in spite of the
big number of students. The ”Growing up together”- group enables all
parents to work for developing cooperation with homes and school. Talsoila
school works with the surrounding community to make children able to
respond to the requirements of society now and in the future.
One of the principles of our school is to make a
pupil a well-balanced individual with healthy self-awareness, adequate
elementary knowledge, facility for cooperation and means to acquire new
knowledge. Pupils are taught to respect honesty, sense of responsibility
and different inviduals.
Modern technology as well as personal experiences
will help a pupil to achieve the balanced combination of knowledge, development
and familiarity with the past.
The distinctive principles in Talsoila school are
environmental studies and making good use of computers. Expressive ability
is also important in our school.
